I have been creating websites to make money via advertising for the past 4 years, and doing search engine optimisation for around 3½ years. I sat around for the first 6 months basically waiting for the visitors to come to my sites. No visitors = no advertising revenue. So I began to look into why my sites weren’t getting the traffic I was expecting.

The answer lies in Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO. Here is the definition: “SEO - Abbreviation for search engine optimization. To attract search engines to the site and improve a site’s ranking for relevant keywords within a search engine’s database. This process includes building links to a page or site, and ensuring the site includes the correct structure and content.”

So I began to build links to my site, I changed a few things that were hindering my search engine rank, and slowly started to see an increase in my visitors. Then came some money from the visitors clicking the adverts on my site. I found I was ranking of the first page of Google after about 5 weeks, and soon had a many number one positions for about 60% of the keywords I was targeting! There were some terms or words that were still about 7 or 8 pages deep in Google, so I concentrated on these pages, and soon got them on to the first page of results.
